Creatively, Mendez Morales is a world-builder who maintains a penchant for materiality despite their simultaneous attempts to transcend it. They make short films, customize dolls, collect clothing, rocks, shells, jewelry, candles, books, prints, posters, figurines, ticket stubs, tarot decks, receipts, boxes, glass bottles, VHS tapes, words, just about anything, if there is a way to repurpose it. Mendez Morales' work focuses on the discarded, the disturbing, and the esoteric. They explore religion, mental health, de-colonization, and subcultural lifestyles. 

In their work, Mendez Morales depicts the vulnerabilities and impermanence of identity through the body, the ego, and the mind, and how humans attempt, with varying degrees of success, to manifest as a collection of these aspects of ourselves in reality. They have made video work focused on some of these topics, but are diverging into more experimental and surreal avenues with 16mm film. They are currently navigating a combination of both analog and digital methods in their practice.
